Soft & Chewy Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookies are melt-in-your-mouth soft with lightly crisp edges and a tender, buttery center. They're easy to make, don’t require chilling, and are perfect for everyday treats or decorating for holidays and special occasions.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Bake Time: 8–10 minutes per batch
Total Time: ~25 minutes
(Optional: chill dough for more defined shape)
Servings: Makes about 2 dozen cookies

Ingredients:

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract (if using).
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop 1 tbsp of dough and roll into balls. Roll in granulated sugar and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
  7. Bake 8–10 minutes, just until edges start to set. Centers may look slightly underbaked — that’s perfect for softness.
  8. Let cool on the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Serving Suggestion:
  • Serve plain or top with buttercream frosting, royal icing, or sprinkles for a festive touch.
Tips:
  • For crispier cookies, bake an extra 1–2 minutes.
  • To cut shapes, chill dough for 30 minutes and roll out to 1/4 inch before baking.
  • Almond extract adds depth — use sparingly if preferred milder.
